Thank you, Melanie, for inviting me to guest write for Age Life Balance! It is an honour, and I hope your readers enjoy some value from my piece.

At the tender age of 56, I am beginning to re-evaluate my life, and putting plans in place to enjoy it more. We live in amazing times with extraordinary technological advances that we can all utilize, and these days 56 is young, whereas a few generations ago, many people died long before the age of 56.

The medical advances of today ensure that many of us can live for several decades past the age of 56. But at what cost?

Striving for the high-life

As a Property Investor and Lettings Agent, I am an active member of the UK property community, and a lot of the “newbies” of every age group get sucked in by the so-called riches they think are available. They bust a gut trying to make millions in their own lunchtime, because they get sold an unrealistic dream by some unscrupulous trainers. They needlessly make themselves ill!

In reality, property creates long term wealth, but like everything in life, you have to work hard for it, with many setbacks along the way, and wait.

I am not rich, but earn a comfortable living from property – and I am absolutely fine with that! I am busy appreciating every day that I am given and living it to the full. Life should be not all about money and deadlines.

Gratitude

Gratitude brings happiness!

Whether a watch costs £20 or £200,000, it still tells the same time. The same with a car, it will get you from A to B whether it’s a banger or a roller! I am the proud owner of Oscar, an 11 year old rusting Ford C Max, and Oscar will be my best friend for years to come!

Ageing

Of course, the 6 best Doctors you need are Sunlight, Exercise, Rest, Diet, Confidence and Friends. As we get older, we develop ailments such as IBS, Diabetes, Stiff Joints, Saggy Skin etc., it is the natural ageing process. I call it my clapped-out old banger stage.

We have to visit the Doctor’s more often, and take the medicines they prescribe which are made up of horrible chemicals, which in turn can cause nasty side effects.

We can do nothing about getting older, but we can help ourselves and make life more enjoyable.

Aloe Vera

Many years ago, I discovered the astounding properties of Aloe Vera. There are many species of the plant, but the best all round one to use for help with issues is Aloe Barbadensis Miller.

Aloe Vera has helped me with weight loss, psoriasis, arthritis, rosacea, digestion, bowel movement, skin care to name but a few. I am not saying it does this that or the other. I think it does, but that does not mean it would work as well for someone else as it does for me, as everybody is different.

So, to confirm, I am not making any amazing medical claims about Aloe Vera, you would need to judge for yourself. What I am saying is that it has made life far more pleasant for me, and I wouldn’t be without it. I drink it, I put it on my skin, I treat my headaches with it and the list goes on. And the selling point for me is that it’s 100% natural.

However, it is advised not to take Aloe if you are on some medicines such as cortisone, therefore you should always get your Doctor’s advice if you are already on prescribed medication.

Why would you put a load of man-made chemicals in your body when you can take a leaf out of Hippocrates’ book? “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”

Wrap-up

We can do nothing about getting older, but we can help ourselves and make life more enjoyable. Aloe Vera has made life far more pleasant for me, and I wouldn’t be without it.
